My Annual Comedy Pilgrimage to McCurdy’s Comedy Club in Sarasota, Florida

Back at McCurdy’s Comedy Club

Every year I make what I like to call my comedy pilgrimage to McCurdy’s Comedy Club in Sarasota, Florida. It’s become a tradition. At this point, it’s as much about the warm weather and seeing old friends as it is about the shows.

McCurdy’s has a well-earned reputation as one of the best comedy clubs in the country. Les and Pam McCurdy have built something special down there. They run the place with real care, and they’re always finding ways to make the experience better for both comics and audiences. Whenever I step on that stage, it feels like I’m back home.

Of course, escaping a New England winter doesn’t hurt either. While my neighbors are shoveling out driveways, I’m enjoying palm trees and sunshine before heading to a packed room full of people ready to laugh. The Sarasota crowds are sharp and fun, and they make it easy to do what I do.

This trip, I worked with Nathan Wallace. He’s a former plumber turned comic with a strong act and plenty of laughs. Sharing the stage with guys like him keeps the week lively and fresh.

Offstage, I managed to sneak in some time at the Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary, which is worth a visit if you’re ever in town. And yes, I kept up my odd little tradition of the annual “group sandwich.” Don’t ask—it’s one of those things that’s probably funnier in person.

What really makes the trip special, though, are the people. I caught up with my longtime friends Dave and Louise Kolin, and I was able to spend some time with my cousin Bill and his family. Those visits are the kind of moments that stay with you long after the shows are over.

I came back from Sarasota feeling grateful. Grateful for the laughs, the sunshine, and the chance to keep doing what I love in such a welcoming place. If you ever find yourself in Sarasota and want a night out, put McCurdy’s on your list. It’s the real deal.

Until next year, McCurdy’s. Thanks again for another great week.
